The ACT Brumbies are proud to unveil their 2024 Anzac Jersey, giving recognition to the Royal Australian Air Force's No. 460 Squadron which first formed as a heavy bomber squadron, notable for operating Avro Lancaster aircraft during World War II.

The Avro Lancaster B1, known with affection as 'G for George', has a remarkable history. The military aircraft flew ninety operational missions over Germany and occupied Europe during the height of the bomber offensive. From the time it was built in 1942 until its retirement from active service in 1944.

With the 'G for George' Avro Lancaster currently in storage as renovations at the Australian War Memorial take place, ACT Brumbies players Rhys van Nek, Harry Vella, Charlie Cale and Billy Pollard were given the opportunity to get up and close with the remarkable piece of Australian history to launch the 2024 Anzac Jersey.

The rosemary with the ACT Brumbies logo is an ancient symbol of fidelity and remembrance. The aromatic herb grows wild on the Gallipoli peninsula in Türkiye, where the original Anzacs served in World War I. Australians traditionally wear sprigs of rosemary as a symbol of remembrance on Anzac Day or Remembrance Day.

The lower back region of the jersey features three poppies. The Red Poppy is a symbol of remembrance of those who died or suffered in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations.

The White Poppy is an international symbol of remembrance for all the casualties of war - civilians and armed forces personnel - and of peace.

The Purple Poppy remembers animal victims of war and human violence. Animals cannot volunteer and have no choice in becoming involved in war when they serve alongside human military personnel. Like humans, animals living in war zones suffer from the effects of war – injury, stress, lack of food and water.

On the sleeve we have the ADF colours, dark blue for the Navy, red for the Army, and light blue for the Air Force.

The 2024 Anzac Jersey will be worn by the ACT Brumbies in their Super Rugby Pacific Anzac Round fixture against the Hurricanes on Saturday, April 27, at GIO Stadium.

The jersey is now available for in Men’s and Women’s on the Brumbies Online Store.
