The Brumbies Women have beaten the Melbourne Rebels in a resounding 69-0 win this afternoon at Seiffert Oval in Queanbeyan.

The win is the biggest in Super W history for the Canberra based side, turning around last week’s loss to the reigning champions the NSW Waratahs.

The home side set the pace early, scoring two tries in the first 10 minutes to race to a 14-0 lead. It was number 8 Tayla Stanford who started off the scoring stampede, running off the back of a scrum and surging through defenders to cross under the posts.

She added another try to her haul 10 minutes later, busting through the line and racing 40m to score, before completing her hat-trick in the 22nd minute by finishing off a nice move down the sideline.

The visitors improved their defense for a period in the middle of the half, doing a good job of disrupting any developing Brumbies plays until Remi Wilton spotted space behind the ruck and raced from halfback to cross in the 33rd minute, pushing the Brumbies lead to 40-0.

The Brumbies Women kept the pressure up after halftime, scoring two quick tries including Remi Wilton’s second after a darting run from the back of the ruck.

Fullback Rachel Crothers also bagged her second of the afternoon extending the lead to 57-0 with half an hour of the match remaining.Following the scoring theme of the night for the Brumbies, Michelle Perry picked up her second try of the match moments later.

The heat of the afternoon seemed to affect the play as both teams slowed down in the final 20 minutes, allowing the Brumbies Women to hold onto their lead.

Darcy Read put the icing on the cake in the final minutes of the match, streaking down the sideline and shrugging off tackles to score the final try of the afternoon in what was a resounding win for the home side.

The Brumbies Women will look to take their form into the next round, when they face the Queensland Women on the 16th of March.
