ACT Junior Rugby Union

Dear Parent RUGBY, in the Right Spirit Rugby is a team game that has evolved from great traditions. It has a rich history of pride and a profound respect for the values of sportsmanship, fair play, camaraderie and a deep appreciation of the community’s involvement. It demands the immense respect of team mates, opponents and officials of the game. It involves dedication and teamwork, a yearning to learn and a sense of responsibility from those who guide and teach. | Rugby Ethos | | | The ACT Junior Rugby Union (ACTJRU) strives to provide a safe and enjoyable environment for the development and promotion of Junior Rugby as well as affording Players an opportunity to value the game, develop their skills and achieve representative honours. | What does the ACTJRU do? | | | The ACTJRU and Brumbies Rugby are committed to promoting and strengthening a positive image of Rugby and its participants in Canberra and its surrounds. In light of this commitment, the Australian Ruby Union’s, (ARU) Code of Conduct, supported by our ‘Expectations of Behaviour’ Guide, seeks to establish standards of performance and behaviour to ensure that all participants in the game, Players, Coaching Staff, Club and School Administrators, Parents, Supporters and the like, act in a professional, proper and appropriate manner to ensure that the game is played and conducted with disciplined and sporting behaviour. The Code of Conduct seeks to deter all on-field and Rugby-related conduct that could damage the game by impairing our community’s confidence in the honest and orderly conduct of the game, the competition or in the integrity and good character of its participants. | What is the ACTJRU responsible for? What is the Code of Conduct? What is the Code of Conduct seeking to achieve? | | | Everyone involved in Rugby is bound by the Code of Conduct and should not abuse, threaten or intimidate a Referee, an Assistant Referee, (Touch Judge), Coaching Staff or other Team or Match Officials, whether on or off the field. They should not do anything which is likely to intimidate, offend, insult or humiliate another participant on the grounds of their religion, sexual orientation, disability, race, colour or national or ethnic origin. The ACTJRU has in place effective sanctions for those found to have breached the Code of Conduct. | What are my responsibilities under the Code? What happens if I don’t conform? | | | By signing an ARU Player Registration Form when you registered your child, you have agreed to abide by Rugby’s Code of Conduct and to ensure we have a safe, fair and fun environment for all. It is very important that everyone involved in Rugby is aware of their responsibilities under the Code of Conduct and the respect owed to each other, particularly the important and valuable role our volunteers provide. | What did I agree to? | | | With the up coming final rounds of the season competition and the impending finals series, I thought it an appropriate time to remind our Rugby fraternity of the spirit of Rugby and our responsibilities in regard to our Code of Conduct. | Why did I receive this letter? | As a parent, coach, manager or spectator your support of the Code of Conduct and the values of Rugby is critical in ensuring that we create a positive and enjoyable environment for all of those involved in the game. Should you have any questions in relation to this letter, please feel free to contact either of the undersigned. | What can I do? Who can I discuss this letter with? |
Yours in Rugby,
